Chiesa di Sant’Agata – Church of Sant’Agata

Ha acquisito il titolo della chiesa di S. Severo, soppressa a seguito dell’ampliamento del Palazzo dei Priori.
Conserva straordinariamente l’aspetto architettonico trecentesco delle origini e all’interno si trovano importanti affreschi di scuola umbra (XIV sec.), opere di artisti in collegamento con la cultura senese.
La “Crocifissione” sulla parete di fondo, attribuita al Maestro di Paciano, ricorda, per l’affinità del soggetto, l’affresco di Pietro Lorenzetti della Basilica Inferiore di San Francesco.
Nel lato destro vicino all’ingresso è una rara rappresentazione medievale della “Trinità trifronte” con tre volti di Cristo, simile a quella dell’affresco nella facciata di San Pietro a Perugia (XIV sec.)

Built between the XIV and the XV Centuries, on the outside it presents a coating in local white It acquired the title of “Church of San Severo” following the suppression of the original church as a result of the enlargement of Palazzo dei Priori.
It has amazingly preserved its original XIV Century architectural appearance and inside there are important frescoes by the Umbrian school (XIV Century), works by artists connected with the school of Siena.
The Crucifixion on the back wall, attributed to the Master of Paciano, recalls, for the affinity of the subject, the fresco by Pietro Lorenzetti in the lower Basilica of St. Francis.
On the right side near the entrance there is a rare representation of the medieval “Three-faced Trinity” with three faces of Christ, similar to that of the fresco on the façade of San Pietro in Perugia (XIV Century).
