Seattle

Seattle è gemellata con Perugia dal 1993.  Ha una popolazione di  circa 650.000 abitanti.
E’ la città più grande dello Stato di Washington (U.S.A.), nota  per la sua posizione strategica sulla costa del Pacifico, scenograficamente situata  tra il Puget Sound e le Cascade Mountains. Il suo porto internazionale collega la costa nord-ovest con l’Alaska e l’Asia e il suo esteso sistema di traghetti è  il più grande del paese.
Seattle deve il suo nome al  Nativo Americano  Sealth, capo  della tribù degli Suquamish. E’ chiamata “la città di smeraldo” grazie alle lussureggianti foreste sempreverdi dell’area che circonda la città.
La città offre allo stesso tempo energia urbana e bellezze naturali. E’ circondata da splendide vedute,  dalle  montagne incappucciate di neve delle Cascade Mountains e delle  Olimpic Mountains al  Mount  Rainier e al Mount  Baker. Paesaggi di laghi e acqua sono ovunque. E’ un posto ideale per tutti coloro che amano  vivere a contatto con la natura.
Seattle è un centro di innovazione  tecnologica ed aziendale. E’ qui che  è stata fondata la Boeing Company ed è sede della Microsoft, Amazon.com e Starbucks Coffee Company.
I fan del rock conoscono bene Seattle: è  la città dove è nato il chitarrista Jimi Hendrix e la patria del “movimento  grunge’’ dei Pearl Jam e i Nirvana.
Pike Place Market è il vecchio mercato rionale, famosa attrazione turistica situata sul lungomare nel cuore della città.
Altre famose attrazioni sono lo Space Needle, costruito nel 1962 in occasione della Seattle World’s Fair (Fiera Internazionale di Seattle) e il Seattle Art Museum.
